THE DANGER OF SUPER EGOS

In the era of Mission 1.5, when we need to recruit new members and retain those who are already with us, an old and challenging issue continues to hinder us from achieving these goals: leaders with inflated egos.
Over the past few years, I have participated in various events organized by Lions International, the Multiple District, LC-2, and even my club, to discuss and develop strategies to increase membership. I can affirm that, in every instance, one of the main problems identified as a cause of member attrition is the Super Ego of some leaders within our movement.
Unfortunately, leaders who prioritize their vanity and the need for "Me" over "Us" fail to see the often silent damage they cause to members—damage that, once recognized, is almost always irreversible.
We know that Lions International increasingly pressures our leaders to meet numbers and goals, which, to be clear, are crucial for the growth and continuity of the movement. However, I want to remind everyone that no goal makes sense or should be more important than caring for people, genuinely caring about our members, and understanding how happy they are to be Lions. When Lions are serving with satisfaction and joy, the other results follow naturally.
Let us remember and truly practice "WE Serve" each day!
